DISTANCE LEARNING TELE-LEARNING E-LEARNING.
WHAT IS DISTANCE
LEARNING?
Tele-learning basically means that you can
enroll and 'attend' classes in a variety of ways. These
include instruction through the print; audio/video tape,
computer software and Internet mediums.
Ultimate flexibility and quality of learning
are offered at the American Liberty University. Whether
it be Degree completion; professional enrichment or personal
development, we expedite an excellent 'user friendly' curriculum.
WHY DISTANCE LEARNING
AT ALU?
Home electronics have come into their own as cutting-edge
educational tools. By utilizing the new facilities combination
of the above referenced options, home (or office) learning
is a positive reality and an excellent alternative to actual,
full-time campus attendance. Tele-learning can effectively
minimize many circumstantial frustrations. These include
the realities of available travel time and logistics, and
a general institutional apathy toward students with restricted
availability. Adults with full-time careers and/or childcare
responsibilities face very difficult challenges at traditional
campuses. In essence, how can you be in two places at once?
As a solution to these problems,
American Liberty University (a Private Post Secondary university
based in the United States) offers undergraduate and graduate
degree programs of high caliber and maximum flexibility
of access.
ALU represents and provides an ideal match of historic academic
excellence combined with the most modern means of communication,
creating an environment of effective instructional interface
and feedback. Our university stresses and prides itself
on enabling students and instructors to interact as if they
were literally in a lecture hall or lab environment - but
with far more flexibility and constructive contemplation
intervals. Our instructors are drawn from both the academic
and professional realms, and will meet with you and your
fellow students in a highly motivated electronic forum to
facilitate the communication between the best of both worlds.
Personal contact is also encouraged, in the form of effective
discussions to optimize your learning experience. In essence,
we provide a clear, concise, precise and interesting academic
environment without the often-daunting necessity of physically
commuting united with the highest and most ultimately rewarding
of academic standards.
GROUP STUDY ATMOSPHERE
The American Liberty University draws in a fascinating cross-section
of people from a wide variety of the social matrix. Tele-learning
students can range from adults with professional and/or
familial responsibilities to young people in remote locations.
All have the opportunity to connect with a network of people
with similar interests to enable lively and stimulating
discussions and provide a framework for professional networking.
Off-campus and on-campus learning can be blended in many
of our programs, offering pupils a wide range of options
for access and success. Students are supported in all areas
of endeavor, logistics and acclimation by ALU's motivated
and efficient staff including the various aspects of general
services, the extensive library and bookstore.
HOW DOES DISTANCE
LEARNING WORK?
Through all of the above referenced mediums, carefully structured,
comprehensive and challenging courses are prepared. These
courses offer complete materials and may vary in structure,
but all are formulated to involve students in stimulating
activities that elicit interest and enhance learning.
IS THIS AN "EASY" WAY OUT?
Hardly. Off-campus students will find that they must devote
just as much of their time toward mastering the course material
as on-campus students at any credible university. As a rough
'time guide,' students should anticipate spending between
15-to-20 hours per week for each unit.
TELE-TUTORIAL POTENTIALS
Depending on specific courses and common needs, a tutorial
class meeting under the guidance of a University-appointed
tutor is a definite plus. While not compulsory, such tutorials
definitely offer students extra learning reinforcement.

Students entering ALU's Distance Learning Program should
be computer literate in most programs. They should have
basic skills in using the World Wide Web, sending and receiving

familiarity with the computer(s) they use, know how to install
software (if necessary), and be able to troubleshoot basic
computer problems. Student may need other computers skills
(such as using spreadsheets) for specific courses.

with reliable Internet access and a Web browser capable
of reading the course materials. Your computer should have
Windows 98 (or higher) or Windows NT.

connection at that rate is recommended. However, the courses
can be accessed at slower speeds.
Caution:
Check with local ISP's before purchasing a 56.6K modem to
make sure they provide that level of service. You should
also ask them which types of modems they support. Some ISP's
will not support certain types of modems.
WEB BROWSERS
Your web browser must meet the following minimum technical
requirements: ·
Browser Versions: 1. Microsoft Internet Explorer
4.0 or higher. 2. Netscape Navigator 3.01 or higher. · JavaScript

are located under Edit/Preferences/Advanced. The Mail To:
commands allow you to send mail from an active link. For
example, if you click on education@ALUniversity.edu and
successfully send email, then your browser is configured
properly. If not, you should configure your program to do
so. The configuration process varies depending upon the
browser, local area networks, and Internet connections.
Other Requirements Students will need Microsoft
Word 2000 (or an equivalent program) in order to read certain
documents. Some courses may require additional programs,
such as Microsoft Excel. Please check course descriptions
for further information.
LENGTH OF THE DEGREE
The time involved in achieving the student's degree goal
will vary from individual to individual. The time frame
will depend upon the transfer credits the student brings
into the program, the number of courses assigned to the
student after an evaluation of the application materials,
and the effort the student desires to put into the program.
